    About Me

    My photo
    David Bates
I am an English and art teacher, and a writer and lyricist whose works include screenplays, a huge musical(www.prometheusthemusical.blogspot.com), tv scripts, magazine features and children’s stories. I hold degrees in American Studies and Humanities from Brigham Young University and have completed coursework at UCLA and The American Film Institute. I’ve lived and taught abroad in Europe and Asia. I have also taught in Dutch Harbor, Alaska, San Diego and Utah. As for careers I’ve had a few and will likely have a few more. Other stuff: Ray Bradbury once sent me a hand written congratulations. I starred as Lenny in Neil Simon’s Rumors. Selma Hayek once placed her hand on my back and said in her oh-so-sultry-accent,“Why are you not in my film?” then led me to the middle of a scene that eventually premiered at Sundance. I’ve lived on four islands. I now live in an old Prairie Gothic church and office in the bell tower. My wife runs a fabulous purse company (www.justbeonline.com) and runs marathons as well. We have five children: girl, boy, girl, boy, girl and the youngest has seven names. We share our home with a Great Dane/St. Bernard (Thor), too many cats and a flock of pigeons.
